City Edition Court

In 2022, I undertook a year-long project - designing a court for the Oklahoma City Thunder. This floor would be an alternate to our traditional court, used on “City Nights” when the players wear their specially designed City Edition jerseys. The court was unveiled in the 2023-2024 season, and officially retired after Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals in 2025.

The goal when creating the court was to build a strong design reflecting the City Edition uniforms, while allowing the jerseys and the players to be center stage. The design the players wore showcased the creators, makers, and doers in Oklahoma City — I highlighted elements of the uniforms without distracting from the players.

Throughout the process, I came up with numerous ideas for the court, then refined and improved upon my designs. In all, I created over 100 different iterations of the floor, several of which you can see below.

The final design featured a navy gradient in the free-throw lane and the sideline, which reflected the black and navy pattern seen on the player’s uniforms without being too busy. The sunset orange lines drew their color from the piping on the jerseys. The Oklahoma state outline was shown inside the three-point line, mimicking the buckle of the shorts the players wore. It was also the first time the OKC Thunder had used a single-color logo at center court.
